Into the Blue: An Unforgettable Adventure to Raja Ampat

Our journey to Raja Ampat was more than just a trip—it was an odyssey through remote islands, untouched waters, and some of the most breathtaking dive sites on Earth. Every step of the way, from the moment we left Bali to our arrival on Kri Island, was filled with adventure, anticipation, and an overwhelming sense of discovery.

The Journey Begins: From Bali to the Wild

After soaking in Bali’s golden beaches and vibrant culture, we set our sights on the legendary reefs of Raja Ampat. But getting there wasn’t as simple as hopping on a plane—it was a test of patience, excitement, and anticipation.

Our first leg took us from Denpasar to Makassar, where we spent a short but much-needed rest before the next morning’s early departure. As dawn broke, we boarded a flight bound for Sorong, the last outpost before the wild, untouched paradise ahead.

Upon landing, we were met by the Sorido Bay Resort crew, who swiftly sorted our dive gear and led us to a waiting speedboat. The moment we stepped aboard, the adventure truly began—the roar of the engine, the salty spray of the sea, and the endless horizon stretching toward the unknown. For an hour, we skimmed across sapphire-blue waters, weaving past jungle-clad islands rising dramatically from the ocean. No roads, no crowds—just raw, untouched beauty.

And then, Kri Island appeared—a slice of paradise where time seemed to stand still.

Diving into a Dream

For the next seven days, we lived by the rhythm of the tides. Four dives a day—each more exhilarating than the last—took us into the beating heart of one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems on the planet.

🌊 Cape Kri – A legendary dive site where we found ourselves surrounded by barracudas, trevally, and reef sharks. The sheer abundance of marine life was staggering—this site holds the world record for the most fish species recorded in a single dive.

🦈 Blue Magic – Here, in the deep blue, we found ourselves face to face with oceanic manta rays, their massive wingspans gliding effortlessly above the reef.

🐠 Sardine Reef – A true pelagic wonderland, where shimmering schools of sardines moved like liquid silver, drawing in hungry tuna, jacks, and patrolling reef sharks.

🦑 Night Dives – When the sun dipped below the horizon, we ventured into the unknown, where bioluminescent creatures, hunting octopuses, and stealthy walking sharks emerged from the darkness.

Between dives, we kayaked through hidden lagoons, hiked to panoramic viewpoints, and soaked in the unreal beauty of this remote archipelago. Sunsets painted the sky in fiery shades of orange and pink, while nights were filled with the sounds of the jungle and the rhythm of the waves.

Survival Guide to the Ultimate Dive Trip

✔ Flight delays are real—plan accordingly (better to arrive a day early in Sorong).

✔ Pack light, but bring the essentials – A dry bag, reef-safe sunscreen, and a headlamp are game-changers.

✔ Cash is king – Most resorts prefer IDR or USD over credit cards.

✔ Expect adventure, not luxury – Raja Ampat is raw, wild, and beautiful—it’s for those who crave the extraordinary.

Final Thoughts: A Place That Changes You

Diving in Raja Ampat isn’t just a trip—it’s a transformation. The moment you surface from a dive, surrounded by turquoise waters and towering limestone cliffs, you realize you’ve left the ordinary world behind.

This is a place where the ocean feels alive, where the reefs pulse with energy, and where every dive reminds you that there are still untouched corners of the planet waiting to be explored.

Our Journey to the San Diego Beach & Bay Half Marathon

Race Day: Embracing the Challenge, and Pushing Limits Today was the big one—the San Diego Beach & Bay Half Marathon. We stood at the starting line at 6:30 AM, under heavy skies and cooler air. No blazing sun today, just a thick layer of cloud cover—a welcome gift for runners like us. This wasn’t unfamiliar ground. We’ve run these paths over and over—Crown Point, De Anza Cove, Mission Bay, Pacific Beach. We knew every twist and turn. But that didn’t make it easier. Michelle almost didn’t start. Her back pain had lingered all week, stubborn and unpredictable. But she showed up, like always. Quietly determined. By mile 3, she was locked in. By mile 6, she was flying. But then came mile 10—the farthest we had ever trained for. That’s where things started to change. Breaths became heavier. Footsteps, slower. At mile 12, we hit the wall—hard. Every stride turned into a battle of will over body. And yet, somehow, we kept moving. Michelle crossed the finish at 2:28. I followed just a minut...

We’ll Always Have Morocco

Day 6: Into the Heart of the Kasbahs — From Dunes to Dramatic Gorges We rose before dawn, the desert still wrapped in silence and stars. The air was crisp, the sky a canvas of deep indigo slowly giving way to shades of gold and rose. As we climbed back onto our camels, the only sounds were the soft crunch of sand beneath padded feet and the gentle whisper of wind over the dunes. At the crest of a ridge, we paused—and there it was:  sunrise over the Sahara . It wasn’t just beautiful; it was soul-stirring. The dunes blushed with morning light, shifting from bronze to fiery orange. Shadows danced. Time stood still. It felt as though the desert was breathing with us—alive with something ancient and eternal. We returned to camp for a traditional Berber breakfast: warm bread, honey, fresh dates, and mint tea that tasted like sunshine in a glass. After breakfast, we bid farewell to our camels, our hosts, and the magical slice of Morocco that had taken root in our hearts. Back in our 4x4s,...

Into the Wild: A New Zealand Adventure

This past holiday season, Michelle and I decided to break away from the familiar. Instead of the usual family gatherings in Bay Area, we packed our bags for New Zealand—a land of rugged beauty, epic adventures, and just enough unpredictability to keep us on our toes. Little did we know, this trip would push us out of our comfort zones and into the heart of an unforgettable adventure. The Start of Something Big We left San Diego with excitement buzzing in the air, cruising up to Los Angeles for a late-night flight. Parking was smooth- thankfully, I’d planned ahead- and soon we were boarding a 12-hour journey to the land of the long white cloud. As we flew across the Pacific, I kept imagining the landscapes ahead: towering mountains, roaring waterfalls, and surreal geothermal pools. Michelle, ever the planner, was busy double-checking our packed itinerary. We touched down in Auckland mid-morning, and the adventure began right away. After grabbing a rental car and stocking up on snacks, w...
